Engineering Talent Demand Gauge Week of February 19th, 2024
The demand for engineers remains unchanged as a whole week over week however the gauge continues to creep downward. The true number last week was 3.43 open jobs for each engineer looking for a new role. This week that number is down to 3.22. High quality candidates are still in control of the hiring process however their leverage, when negotiating compensation and other perks, is lessening.
We don’t expect to see the gauge fall below 3. The typical recruiting and hiring cycle for big companies always seems to gain steam between March and April as budgets are finalized. Of course final budgets translate to approved headcount for new hires. We’ll find out in the weeks to come.
